Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action
The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action has overarching management responsibility for Victoria’s Crown land, and on behalf of the minister, they provide support and oversee the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve Trust, including guidance about our roles and responsibilities and any applicable government policies and legislation. They also monitor conformity with relevant legal requirements and policies and facilitate reporting of the Trust’s performance to the minister.
Victorian Planning Authority
The Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) is responsible for making sure Melbourne and Victoria’s regions remain great places to live. Part of their remit involves strategic planning and coordinated infrastructure for the future growth and transformation of Victoria’s cities and regions. The VPA is currently leading the preparation of a structure plan for the Caulfield Station Precinct, and the Trust is working closely to ensure the Land Management Plan complements and is in line with the VPA’s planning documents.
City of Glen Eira
The Caulfield Racecourse Reserve is located within the City of Glen Eira – a densely populated and culturally diverse residential area in the inner south-east of Melbourne. As well as the Reserve, it is also home to the Caulfield Campus of Monash University. Glen Eira has the lowest amount of open space within any Victorian municipality and opening up the Reserve for more public use is part of Council’s Open Space Strategy. The City of Glen Eira is also working with the Victorian Planning Authority and other key stakeholders to inform the preparation of the Caulfield Station Precinct Structure Plan.
City of Stonnington
The City of Stonnington is located in Melbourne’s inner south-east, alongside the Yarra River and has the second lowest amount of public open space per capita of all Victorian councils. Stonnington is primarily a residential area, with some commercial, industrial, office and institutional land uses. They are currently working with the Victorian Planning Authority and other key stakeholders to inform the preparation of the Caulfield Station Precinct Structure Plan.
Monash University
Monash is Australia’s largest university, with a presence on three continents, and the Caulfield Campus is the university’s second largest campus offering undergraduate, graduate and research programs. With its close proximity to Caufield Station, as well as the racecourse reserve, the university forms part of the Caulfield Station Precinct, and together with other stakeholders, they are informing the preparation of the Victorian Planning Authority’s structure plan.
Melbourne Racing Club
The Melbourne Racing Club hosts horse racing events at its venues across Victoria, including Caulfield Racecourse, which is regarded as one of the best thoroughbred racing and events venues in Australia. The MRC currently holds a long-term lease for racing at the Reserve. Thoroughbred training will be relocated over the next five years.
